The Minister of Labor and Congresswoman, Betssy Chavezannounces a constitutional reform bill that proposes that psychological and psychiatric examinations be a mandatory requirement to apply to be a parliamentarian.
The member of the ministerial cabinet reported that she made this decision after participating in a symposium with various health specialists in mental health. In addition, she indicated that this proposal proposes to modify article 90 of the Constitution.
“In my capacity as a congressman, we have held a symposium called ‘Mental health in the public function’. It has been a four hour event. There have been specialists, such as the dean of psychologists from the Lima region, there have been other specialists from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Health”, he declared from outside the Congress.
“As a result of the event, my congressional office is presenting the constitutional reform bill that modifies article 90 of the Constitution and incorporates the psychological and psychiatric examination as a requirement to apply for the position of congressman”, he added.
Next, the legislator of the Democratic Peru bench indicated that from this Friday she will begin collecting signatures for the formal presentation of the bill
“We believe that addressing the issue of mental health in the country is fundamental. We are a country in which, as the exhibitors mentioned, one in three Peruvians has a mental diagnosis. We have 4 million Peruvians”, he added.
On motion of censure
In relation to the motion of censure that the Fuerza Popular bench presented against him this Thursday, the head of the Ministry of Labor, Betssy Chavezassured that he takes it against tranquility.
“I take censorship very calmly. In point 6 they indicate labor outsourcing, the limitations and indicate the draft labor code, but in the 17 questions they did not consult me on these issues. I don’t understand how they question me for one thing and censor me for another“, said.
