The Vice President of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, asked the “imperialist” countries this Thursday to leave “in peace” the government headed by her husband, Daniel Ortega, one of the three leaders who may not be invited to the 2022 Summit of the Americas. , next June, in the United States.
“Leave us alone, we are not attacking anyone, we are not exporting wars, we are not trying to expand borders, we are not taking assets from any people, from any country,” said Murillo, in his daily speech at noon.
The first lady called for “peace” after applauding the words pronounced by Ortega the day before, “when he spoke to the imperialists of the Earth.”
Nicaragua, along with Cuba and Venezuela, has been at the center of the controversy prior to the Summit of the Americas, since the United States has expressed its interest in not inviting any representative of those countries to said meeting, which it considers “ undemocratic.”

“How is it possible that they themselves bury their knives, they, the rich, the powerful of the Earth, believe they are powerful,” Murillo stressed. “We are on the side of the peoples who fight for peace,” added the vice president of Nicaragua, whose government has given her support to Russia in the conflict with Ukraine.
The Nicaraguan first lady also referred directly to the United States.

Likewise, he insisted on “denounce” the “imperialist” countries.

The United States has been one of the most active countries in holding Ortega responsible for alleged human rights violations since the 2018 anti-government outbreak in Nicaragua, in which at least 355 people died, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
The United States, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the European Union rejected the legitimacy of the general elections of November 2021, in which the former Sandinista guerrilla was re-elected, once again with Murillo as vice president, and with seven of his adversaries in prison plus two in exile.
