The Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI), warned in a statement about the low rates of execution of public works in the country. He even pointed out to the National Institute of Roads (Invías) and the territorial entities of not advancing as they should in the projects.
(‘Low execution of public works impacted infrastructure GDP’).
To this statement was added the latest report from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), in which the quarterly results are revealed in red numbers on the execution of civil works in the country. There, he stated that the category decreased 4.9% (annual variation).
(Announcement of the second phase of the Aburrá Oriente Tunnel, in Antioquia).
In this regard, the ICC argues that these results are due to the low execution of public projects by these entities. “The public works projects in charge of Invías and the territorial entities are advancing at a pachydermic pace, much lower than budgeted,” he said.
Likewise, the Chamber pointed out that the Invías budget execution indices as of May of the current year show a ‘languid 13.8%’. “The figure is worrying if one takes into account that the total budget of that entity is no less than $9.8 billion, of which $5.2 are investment (the largest item in the sector for 2022),” said the official. guild.
Regarding the GDP and this sector, the ICC qualified that the result of the figures on civil works are the result “of the absence of leadership from mayors and governors to use the resources of the General System of Royalties (SGR) which has a balance of a little more than $7.6 billion”, concluded the document.
Regarding the ICC statements, Portafolio consulted Didier Tavera, director of the National Federation of Departments (FND), and Invías, and both entities declined to comment on the matter.
PROJECTS WITH DELAYS
And it is that in figures from the National Government, it is clear that there are public works projects in charge of Invías that will not be completed in the scheduled period.
One of these projects is the work Espriella – river Matajea project that would connect Colombia with Ecuador, in order to consolidate an articulated transport network.
Currently, the project is 81.6% complete (executed), and although the goal was to complete it by June 30 of this year, completing this period is in doubt, due to the “study on possible suspension of the contract due to the situation of public order in the area and shortage of materials”, indicates a report from the Ministry of Transport.
Another key project for the country has not made any progress. It’s about the Comprehensive Road Management Antioquiawhich has an investment of more than $154,086 million and no progress despite the fact that it began on December 31, 2020. It must be completed by July 31, 2022.
On the problem of the department of Meta, kilometer 58, it is a work that currently has delays.
Like the aforementioned project, it should be ready by July 31 of this year and is currently only 15.2% complete. The final solution for this corridor is charged at $150,000 million.
