With a growth of 13.3% in April, the free zones break another export record, so this month is positioned as the best April in the history of the free zones with more than US$ 657.3 million, maintaining a surprising pace of growth during the first quarter of this year, representing 12.7% compared to the same period of 2021, as well Victor reported –ito– Bisonó Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes.
Accumulated exports between January and April totaled US$ 2,513.1 million, that is, US$ 282.3 million more than in the same period last year.
This increase in exports was recorded mainly in the following subsectors: plastic articles (44.5%), textile manufacturing (26.8%), medical and pharmaceutical devices (23.7%) and jewelry (14.4%), whose exports totaled US$ 1,363.9 million, according to a report by the Vice Ministry of Free Zones and Special Regimes.

The growth momentum has remained constant since the pandemic, as free zone exports in 2021 stood at US$7,179.6 million for the first time, 22% more than in 2020, which reaffirms the position of the sector as one of those that has contributed the most to the national economic recovery.
Bisonó attributed the dynamism and recovery exhibited in the last two years to the climate of confidence, stability and policies promoted by government headed by the president Abinader to attract investment to the country.
This has favored the installation of 148 new companies approved since the new government administration began with projected investments that exceed US$ 314.7 million.
In the first quarter of 2022, the United States and Haiti remain the main destinations for Dominican exports, with 72.8% and 6.5%, respectively.
The participation of free zone companies in country’s total exports was 60.9%, while 36.4% of what was exported corresponded to the national industry. Additionally, the contribution of free zones to growth in April was 76.1%.
