During the chapter on petitions and formulations, Lucas Aquino, a national senator for the PLRA, gave details about a conversation that Mario Abdo Benítez, president of the Republic, had with the Acevedo family (he did not specify with whom specifically).
He compared the Chaco War (1932 to 1935) with the current fight against organized crime. He stressed that before the country had renowned figures such as Eusebio Ayala, Eligio Ayala and José Félix Estigarribia. However, now we only have the current national president.
“Today we have to confront organized crime with Mario Abdo Benítez, this leaves us messages of encouragement and hope, the first of them; ‘We must live with organized crime’ and the most recent message he left to the Acevedo family is ‘what do you want me to do?’ I know that the President of the Republic is busy with a view to 2023, but I also want to tell him that organized crime is winning the war and we need a president, ”he urged.
EXHIBITION
During his presentation of almost 10 minutes, the legislator affirmed that he was accompanying the Acevedo family during these tragic days and with all certainty he can affirm that Amambay has been lost.
“Organized crime has established itself in Amambay and needs a forceful political response. Not only with each attack or with each death of some Paraguayan. Our mayor is dying as State institutions are dying, ”he said.
He stressed that organized crime requires 24-hour attention, 365 days a year. In addition, he commented that he brings a message from Governor Ronald Acevedo himself for the congressmen.
“He expresses his total distrust of the Executive Branch and his disappointment with the Public Ministry. He asks that from Congress we request a general purge of all the important positions of the National Police, of all the departments and specialized secretariats and an immediate administrative transfer of all the prosecutors and judges of the Amambay, ”he announced.
He warned that there is no prosecutor or judge who is not afraid or who does not receive money in said department.
“The governor asks that his brother’s attack not be cooled by the Prosecutor’s Office, as if it happens with the murder of his daughter. Seven months later, those directly responsible have not been found.
Finally, he urged the allocation of more resources to the national police to put a stop to insecurity.
“I ask that all congressmen carry the Acevedo backpack. It is unfair that they continue the fight alone. It should be a state fight,” he concluded.
CONGRESS
During the ordinary session of the Senate, two bills related to the fight against organized crime were approved. The first was the mandatory installation of cargo control scanners in primary areas of public and private ports. While the second was a “protocol for the elimination of illicit trade in tobacco products.” Both now go to the Chamber of Deputies for study.
