The Cuban government confirmed this Thursday its support for the Global Security Initiative recently presented by the president of ChinaXi Jinping, considering that it promotes multilateralism.
The island’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, indicated on his Twitter account that the Caribbean country welcomes Xi’s proposal and assured that both governments agree «in the need for a vision of cooperative and sustainable security, based on respect for the Charter of the United Nations and contrary to unilateralism».

The Chinese president launched this initiative last month during the Boao Forum, nicknamed the “Asian Davos”, which met on the island of Hainan, in the south of the country and which seeks to “promote regional economic integration and coordinate plans to achieve the development goals,” says an office from Latin Press (PL).
During the meeting, the Chinese president called on the international community to “make efforts to achieve economic and political stability” and “abandon the mentalities of the cold war, unilateralism and confrontation,” the report added, according to which Xi He assured that Beijing “takes very seriously the legitimate security concerns of all countries” and defends “a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture.”
“We respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. We adhere to non-interference in the internal affairs of others and equally respect the path of development that each one chooses for their country,” the president said, quoted by the agency EFE.
Cuba’s support for Xi’s proposal comes a day after the Chinese ambassador to the island, Ma Hui, assured state media that “Havana shares your country’s vision for cooperation and security on the basis of dialogue and respect for sovereignty”, as you refer the official site Cubadebate.
Both nations maintain close bilateral ties in both the economic and political spheres. China is one of the main allies and the second commercial partner of Cuba, with which it collaborates in various cooperation projects in technology, education and biotechnology.
