It is common for the chamber that groups Uruguayan industrialists or exporters to complain about the lack of competitiveness that the country has. Nevertheless, That is not the vision that the Argentine businessman Manuel Antel hasor about the numbers to produce in Uruguay. The executive has several businesses underway in the country and in different areas of activity.

At a press conference, after inaugurating his assembly plant in Nordex, Antelo was questioned about how he came to invest in Uruguay with current exchange rate levels. “I do not agree at all that there is a lack of competitiveness. If there is a lack of competitiveness in the plant, it is our fault that we do not know how to adapt the working methods, the way of working. People (for the employees) work at a very good pace. We are happy, very happy. Not only we, the people of Ford, of Peugeot, who manufacture vehicles for them. Everyone says that the productivity we have is very good, “he said.

“Only in the dictionary is success before work. Today Nordex gives them a chance for advancement. To you guys: work and work. Success can come, “said the businessman before ending his speech at the official opening of the Ford plant on Tuesday, in a message addressed to workers.

The Argentine businessman assured that the utility plant that he will have in Nordex “will be of the first level” in order to have “competitive prices” and “quality”.

Antelo considered that Uruguay is on a “very good path” to continue attracting investment because it has a “very positive” investment promotion regime. “It has stability, the rules of the game do not change. It is a bimonetary country. We can work in the currency we want, and the economy is very open. I am a superoptimist,” he concluded.

The Nordex venture involves a joint investment with Ford of US $ 50 million, employs about 150 people directly, and plans to manufacture about 8 thousand utility vehicles per year of the Transit model, destined for different markets in South America.

Antelo -which resides in Uruguay- has other investments in the country, such as the Santa Rosa group, Car One and the Decathlon sports store.
