Moments before the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, announced a series of measures for the southern part of the country, including the decree of a state of emergency, the senator of the Christian Democracy, Francisco Huenchumilla, held a meeting with the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, to address solutions to the conflict in that sector.
Since his period as mayor, Huenchumilla has asked to address the problem through the use of dialogue, so when the Government was going to announce an alternative of intermediate state, it stated that it was not enough.
Along the same lines, regarding the decision of the state of emergency decree for the southern zone, Huenchumilla told emmol that “this government response is more comprehensive than the previous ones, because it includes a security measure, which is the limited state of emergency, and other measures, which was what I was asking for.”
However, the former mayor of La Araucanía stated that these types of determinations are a bet, emphasizing that “here I cannot guarantee that this is the definitive answer as someone out there said.”
In any case, the parliamentarian emphasized that there will be a month to evaluate the operation of the measure, which, in his opinion, is a positive response to what is happening in the southern part of the country.
“The President can decree for 15 days and extend for 15 days, therefore, we have a month to evaluate the development of these measures. So, in principle, it seems positive to me because it is a more complete response to the phenomenon than what we have in La Araucanía”, he concluded.
