The US relaxes some sanctions on Venezuela to promote dialogue

A high-level US government official confirmed that your country will lift some economic sanctions against Venezuela with the aim of reactivating the dialogues between the opposition and the government of Nicolás Maduro.

This lifting of some restrictions occurs at the request of the opposition sector led by Juan Guaidó and it is expected that, after this decision, it will be announced soon that the talks are resumed in Mexico.

Given the it is a “limited form” measuredoes not imply that they are completely eliminated the sanctions imposed on the Venezuelan government.

Among the sanctions eliminated is the ban on the US oil company Chevrón from ‘dealing’ with the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA. On this aspect it is clarified that companies are allowed to speak, but does not allow trading or exploiting Venezuelan crude.
