The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinas, had warned days ago about the increase in infections; there were two deaths.
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) released this Monday a new weekly report on the epidemiological situation in the country, with data ranging from May 8 to Saturday, May 14.
The portfolio reported that the number of confirmed cases of covid-19 in that period was 5,549 and 4,938 people were suffering from the disease until the report was closed.
In the last week, a total of 29,989 tests were carried out and two people died, accumulating the death of 7,215 people from covid-19 since the pandemic began.
Of the 63.4% of intensive care beds occupied in the country, 3.1% correspond to patients with covid-19.
The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinas, gave a conference days ago in which he reported that there was an increase in cases in the last two weeks.
“The pandemic is not over,” warned the chief, adding that there was a change in the variants that may be causing the rise in cases, but that has not affected mortality.
“From Monday to Thursday of last week we had 1,172 new cases and from Monday to Thursday of this week we have recorded 2,636 cases. It is appropriate to highlight the increase in cases that are especially occurring in the 18 to 49-year-old age range. These are cases that occur in occupational outbreaks that later lead to intra-family outbreaks and some cases at educational levels,” Salinas explained last Friday.
In the report of the previous week (between May 1 and 7), 2,830 new cases (almost half that in the last one) of covid-19 had been registered and 2,893 patients were suffering from the disease. In addition, that week there were three deceased people.
The MSP approved on Friday the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine for the 18 to 49-year-olds with comorbidities.
At a press conference, Salinas pointed out that those who have received two doses of Sinovac and one from Pfizer may be inoculated.
The portfolio recommended inoculation in a particular way for people with comorbidities, but the agenda will be available to all people within that age group.
