President Jair Bolsonaro said today (17) that the loss of purchasing power of the Brazilian population stems from the strategy adopted by “many who embarked on the story of ‘stay at home, and we’ll see the economy later’”, to fight the pandemic. . According to the president, the war between Russia and Ukraine also contributed to the worsening of the situation.
The statements were made during the inauguration of a 40-kilometer duplication stretch of the BR-101 in Sergipe, between the cities of Propriá and Capela, located close to the border with Alagoas. The stretch inaugurated today is the first of five lots in a project with an estimated investment of R$ 203 million.
Agribusiness and fertilizers
On the occasion, the president spoke about the Northeast’s vocation for agribusiness, something that, for him, was enhanced by the settlement policy that has been adopted in the country.
“In the Northeast, we have a lot of people focused on agribusiness. We guarantee the fertilizer by making contact with the Russian government. Last week, 26 vessels docked here with enough fertilizer for this year’s crop,” Bolsonaro said. According to the president, the effects of the war in Europe and the strategy to combat the pandemic adopted by governors were the main factors that ended up reducing the purchasing power of the Brazilian population.
“We went through difficult times with the pandemic, during which many embarked on the story of ‘stay at home, and we’ll see the economy later.’ Regrettably, many governors have destroyed jobs and income, especially for the poorest,” said the president. “But we are returning to normalcy,” he added.
Bolsonaro said that he also regrets the loss of purchasing power of public servants, but stressed that he is “sure that this will be recovered”.
