FA believes that the cost of social security reform should not fall on the weakest

This Monday the Executive Secretariat of the Broad Front met. After the meeting, the president of the FA, Fernando Pereira, was consulted about the expressions of the ruling party referring to the fact that the social security reform must have the support of the opposition.

“The government states that the social security reform must have the support of the FA, but it acts in the opposite direction. If they had the will to bring the parties together, they should have summoned us in a timely manner, which they did not do. Now there is an electoral calculation to define how much it costs the government coalition to vote for a reform”, he said.

“The government has to take charge if there are transformations that it considers urgent, otherwise it was not so urgent or they were not going to take charge,” he said.

In any case, Pereira said that the FA believes that there should be a social security reform, as long as the entire cost does not fall on the weakest sectors of society.

He added that there are “multiple reforms”, on the one hand the BPS, and on the other hand the military and professional funds. “But we all know that some boxes if you touch them are a problem.”

“Let them start by reforming the Caja Militar and suddenly they have the audacity to transform a Caja that gives the same deficit as the entire BPS together”, stated the president of the FA.

He questioned that the social security reform project is not yet known, because there is no document or draft law. “We are not going to discuss at the speed of Twitter.”

Pereira clarified that the report of the Committee of Experts is not binding.

Frightening

On the other hand, Pereira said that the data on public safety is alarming.

“The FA makes available the dialogue that it deems pertinent to try to solve a problem that is not between the Police and crime, because it is a social, cultural and public security problem. If the government has the will to dialogue, the FA will be with its hand out”, he assured.

He also stated that the left will not take shortcuts, nor will it ask for the resignation of ministers, as was done when the Broad Front governed.

“We know that security is a difficult issue to resolve, but what they raised when the FA was the government is very contradictory. Today it’s account adjustments, revenge between gangs, or it’s drug trafficking. It is more or less the same diagnosis that the previous government had, the problem is that they said they were going to solve it”, he questioned.

The government model failed

Pereira said that the government model failed, in this sense he listed that the failure is expressed in: the lack of medicines in public health, in education and in economic policy where there is scarcity and low wages.

In addition, “they could not fulfill their electoral promises to lower fuel prices. Where are the policies that they were going to promote?”

He remarked that Uruguay “is more impoverished than it was. Thousands of Uruguayans are living on the streets”.

He said that Uruguay grew economically for a year at 4.5%, but there are more people on the street, more poor children, lower wages and worse living conditions.

“When something fails, they title things that are not going to happen. They said there were going to be no cuts in health, education and housing, but there were cuts. They said there was going to be an FTA with China. Where is the pre-feasibility agreement? », she questioned.
