On Friday, BBVA Mexico reported that 200,000 of your customer accounts have a negative balance after the past April 27, 28 and 29 the purchases made by its customers were recorded as available balances instead of purchase operations.
The official said that initially there were 280,000 accounts with a negative balance and that so far not a single formal complaint has been reported to the Condusef.
After the incident, which the bank described as a “human error”, it offered those affected a coffee and support programs to return the money.
“We have little more than 350 questions or consultations, but not at the level of complaints. There was a human or technical error. In the powers of the National Banking and Securities Commission, it will have to enter, review and we will have its opinion,” Rosado said.
The president of the Condusef added that it will be the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) who, within the framework of its powers, will determine if the bank of Spanish origin deserves a sanction.
The Condusef said that they will review what happened with BBVA Mexico, but warned that it has less scope in terms of sanctions against the CNBV.
“Regardless of the fact that the bank announced that it is going to give them interest-free facilities to cover this negative balance, customers can approach the Condusef channels,” Rosado added.
