Monsignor Álvarez: “Whoever gives in to hatred and revenge is a weak person”

Monsignor Álvarez: "Whoever gives in to hatred and revenge is a weak person"

Monsignor Rolando Alvarezbishop of the diocese of Matagapla and apostolic administrator of the diocese of Estelí, advocated love and forgiveness, and invited Nicaraguans not to be persuaded by the “dark forces of hate.”

During his homily this Sunday, May 15, the bishop stated that the believer must practice the love that Jesus taught, and that love begins with forgiveness. “Forgiveness is certainly not easy, especially when after an action that hurts you, that hurts you, that hurts you, comes another and another and another, it is not easy. However, it is the great proposal of Christ », he told the parishioners in the San Isidro parish in Condega, on the occasion of the festival of San Isidro Labrador.

«Do not fight who wants to fight with you. Do not respond with fire to the one who attacks you with fire. Overcome evil by force of good. We have an invincible power that God has given us: the power of love and forgiveness that are invincible”, advised Monsignor Álvarez.

Regarding Nicaragua, he warned that “some temptations besiege it” which are fear, despair and hatred. He explained that fear is overcome with the dignity of recognizing ourselves as “children of God because Christ freed us to be free”; and despair is overcome with hope based on Jesus Christ.

Regarding the temptation of hatred, he said that “we could cite revenge, resentment, the lust of wanting to hurt another person, of wanting to respond to the other with the same currency with which he has paid me, and hatred and all its consequences is overcome with love.

But, “we Nicaraguans cannot, we must not, allow these temptations to even filter through a crack in our hearts. Christ has given us the commandment of love to win with love, “said the bishop.

He stated that to love is to be patient, helpful, not to feel envy or seek evil; neither does he rejoice over “what is unfair, he only rejoices in the truth”.

«We live stalked by dark forces of hate, of revenge. For dark forces that come from evil and that would like us to pay with the same currency. That is a temptation from the devil because a person who gives in to hatred, to revenge, who is rooted in unforgiveness is a weak person, a person divided in his heart, a spiritually sick person and that weakens the person, “he explained. «He who does not love is weak, we already said it, hatred is typical of the weak because he who is weak in the inability to love has to hide in hatred, in arrogance, in arrogance, in ambition, He has to look for a mask so as not to show his weakness, “added the Catholic hierarch.

Instead, “he who loves does not need masks, he walks with his head held high because he is free, because he does not need masks, he presents his face, the face of joy and love that always wins. Love is invincible. There is no human or evil force that is capable of sustaining itself in the face of love, none,” emphasized Álvarez, a critical voice of the repression in Nicaragua.
