A one person died and four were seriously injured in a shooting at a church near Los Angelesauthorities reported Sunday a day after a gunman killed 10 people in a store in upstate New York.
“Four victims were seriously injured,” the sheriff’s office said on Twitter. “One victim died at the scene.” and another person suffered “minor” injuries, he added.
Authorities said they received a Geneva East Presbyterian Church Emergency Call Sunday. “We arrested one person and recovered a weapon that may be involved” in the incident, the sheriff’s department said in a previous tweet.

The county fire service said its firefighters and paramedics were “on scene and treating and transporting multiple patients.”
Pictures on social media seem to show emergency vehicles lined up outside a church.
The office of California Governor Gavin Newsom He said he is working with local authorities to monitor the situation. “No one should be afraid to go to their place of worship. Our thoughts are with the victims,” the office tweeted.
Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter, who represents Orange County in Washington, called the shooting of “terrible and disturbing news, especially less than a day after a mass shooting in Buffalo“.

According to the sheriff’s office, the church is located in Laguna Woods, about 70 km southeast of Los Angeles.
