Commission arrives at the border with Beni and claims that the Piso Firme community belongs to Santa Cruz

A commission of the Departmental Legislative Assembly and the Government of Santa Cruz He reached the border with Beni and claimed that the Piso Firme community is part of the department of Santa Cruz. This locality, in recent times, was in dispute with Beni authorities, who say that the town is part of the municipality of Baure, in Beni. Technical georeferencing work was carried out to once again delimit the border between the two departments.

The president of the Departmental Legislative Assembly of Santa Cruz, Zvonko Matkovic, reported that a tour was made in the Piso Firme community together with the vice president of the Assembly, Oscar Feeney, the assemblywoman for the Velasco province, Yelly Valdivieso, in addition to personnel from the Directorate of Limits and Territory of the Government of Santa Cruz, who brought state-of-the-art equipment to take the points via GPS to once again delimit and georeference the limits of the department of Santa Cruz.

“This is a very important job. We all know that the Population Census is coming up and it is very important to know what the limits of our department are. There is a 1914 law that clearly establishes that Piso Firme is within Santa Cruz territory.we still wanted to do this work, to document it and leave no doubt that this territory belongs to the department of Santa Cruz”, Matkovic remarked.

The assemblyman noted that there is documentation that makes Piso Firme look like a community in the municipality of Baure, in Beni. Matkovic stressed that the Public Management System (Sigep) will be used to once again establish the limits between both departments.

“They are very small communities, like Piso Firme, which has around 100 inhabitants, but that is not why it will be forgotten by this Government. We believed that it was important that the authorities be present, that the people know that they have our support, there are very nice images there of the children singing the Santa Cruz anthem, all of them recognize that they are from Santa Cruz, the older people of the community tell the story of what it was like, where the limits were, the stories that have been passed down from grandparents to parents,” explained Matkovic.
