Monterey, NL. The Water Master Plan for Nuevo León proposes actions in the short, medium and long term, with an investment of 25,000 million pesos, to guarantee supply for the metropolitan area for the next 50 years.
We are serious about these projects, for now we want to satisfy the 16,000 liters per second, which is the average consumption, today we only have 13,000 liters per second available, there is a deficit of 12 to 15%. To reach 16,000 liters per second it has to be very fast, in months”, explained the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García.
He assured that the water crisis is going to be resolved and that today in an event where the teachers were recognized, they questioned him why there’s no waterwhy at night the supply was reduced so much, today I am showing my face”, he stressed.
At the press conference, the governor was accompanied by Juan Ignacio Barragán, director of Water and Drainage of Monterrey.
In the short term, the strategy of reducing the supply and cutting one day a week per sector was adopted, so that the vital liquid reaches, and in the case of 9.5% of the houses settled in irregular areas, the state sends trucks and has pumping systems to increase pressure, except in Cumbres and in the Chipinque area.
The population two decades ago was 3 million inhabitants and there were 7 municipalities in the metropolitan area, today the population has doubled, and although they have received a lot of water from the District of Las Lajas, there is a deficit that needs to be covered.
“A mainland ark Already Ternium, thank you very much for donating water; It has not been enough and there are companies that have not yielded a drop of water, acting irresponsibly”, he emphasized.
When the deficit is covered in August, there will be enough water to guarantee drinking water for the population and industry, coming from rivers and basins.
In the medium term, the aim is to guarantee a supply of 25,000 liters/second, incorporating 132 shallow wells into the basin by December 2022, and 20 deep wells; Conclude in 2023, the Libertad dam with a capacity of 2,000 liters per second and a joint investment of the federation and the state government.
In addition to the pressure modulation program that will supply the entity with 4 more cubic meters per second, and a program to obtain water in agricultural areas.
In the medium term, the construction of four plants for advanced drinking water treatment will be carried out, permanent actions will be implemented to strengthen the Water and Drainage system, such as the replacement of 1.5 million meters, financial restructuring, reduction of irregular networks, and expansion of the Monterrey 5 system distribution network.
Long-term
In long-term projects, which are still under study, the governor announced the construction of a second pipeline in the dam The Knife Ia project that was abandoned by previous state administrations and that would bring 5,000 liters per second more to the ZMM.
As well as incorporating into this system, the water from the dam Vicente Guerrero in Tamaulipas, which due to its location is viable to bring water to Nuevo León, and the construction of an intake on the current of the Panuco River and drive it by pumping to Monterrey, because it has the concession, as well as analyze desalination plant projects, to make sea water drinkable.
