MIAMI, United States.- Cuban Yonder Beirute Pileta, 28, an ambulance driver in the province of Guantánamo, died this Saturday in a traffic accident when he was on duty, after he lost control of the brakes. The vehicle fell off the bridge in that mountainous area.
As reported in his profile Facebook journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza, the incident occurred at 9:15 pm this Saturday in the Dos Pasos area, in Yateras.
“The two doctors who went with him to assist a patient in Bernardo de Yateras remain hospitalized. At this time, his people accompany the farewell of the young Yaterano who died in the accident. We convey our condolences to his family and friends from the page and wish the doctors a speedy recovery, ”says the publication.
Reyes Mendoza added that one of the injured doctors, named René, has rib fractures, underwent surgery and underwent a pleurotomy.
“The orthopedists at the Agusthino Neto General Teaching Hospital in Guantanamo performed damage control surgery (wound wipe and hemostasis) to stabilize it and later on in the evolution to reduce the fracture. He is reported in serious stable condition and is in the postoperative period, ”he said.
For his part, the other doctor, Reynaldo Redor Marten, 25, “was under observation after receiving a concussion. He is already discharged from his house, ”he added. The doctors belong to the Dos Pasos and Tribilín family medical offices.
Accidents in Cuba
According to official figures, in 2021 there were 8,369 traffic accidents in Cuba. The National Road Safety Commission (CNSV) assured that these events cost the lives of 589 people and 5,859 were injured.
Vehicle crashes accounted for 52.9% of the events and 42.7% of the victims. For its part, the pedestrian hit left 21% of the total deaths (one in six).
