The Polish Robert Lewandowski, chosen as the best FIFA player in 2020 and 2021, expressed this Saturday his desire to leave Bayern Munich in the upcoming transfer market, after eight seasons of stay and 344 goals scored in the Bavarian club.
The player did not give any indication about his eventual destination, which would be in Barcelona according to European media.
“I can confirm that I have informed Hasan Salihamidzic (Bayern’s sports director), I have made my decision and I will not renew my contract with Bayern Munich,” he declared on Sky after the last game of the Bundesliga season in Wolfsburg (2-2 ), a game in which he scored his 35th goal of the championship to finish, once again, as the leader in the scorers table.
At the club since 2014, Lewandowski is 33 and his current contract expires at the end of June 2023, meaning Bayern should let him out for free if he stays for another season.
“I have told Hasan that if an offer arrives, it will have to be studied, also in the interest of the team,” he added. “Both sides have to think about the future. I can’t say more. We want to find the best solution for the club and for me”.

The club’s boss, Oliver Kahn, declared in April that Bayern “was not crazy to talk about the transfer of a player who scores between 30 and 40 goals per season.”
According to the German website Sport1, however, there was already a verbal agreement between Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and Barcelona for a three-year contract.
Barcelona, in financial difficulties, could have problems finding the 40 million euros (41.57 million dollars) in which the transfer is valued, and to ensure the Pole a salary to match his talent.
