One more battle for independence

We are betraying the constitutional mandate to protect human dignity

Contrary to those who cultivate pessimism and the black wave, this May 15, 2022 there are things to celebrate in addition to the 211 years of independent life. And many new challenges to face.

After countless ups and downs, we have managed to stabilize the democratic system of government, accepting as a reality that it is the least bad of all.

But we have been resting on the laurels won on February 3, 1989, letting the average rate of rogues embedded in the system have been increasing.

The battle before us is comparable to the one waged by the founding fathers against the Spanish crown. It is about the Republic being led by the best citizens, men and women touched by the passion to serve it, favoring the values of honesty, capacity and true democratic vocation. We must discard the cynical idea that the sanctum sanctorum of the State can be reached by any means, a model preferred by freebooters and opportunists who use the power of money and extortion to appropriate all instances of government.

We are very fond of celebrating these two long centuries of life in freedom with the waving of flags and patriotic chords. But we have the obligation to think about whether we have not replaced, for another, that proud scepter that one day we broke with a resounding enough.

With freedom comes responsibilities, and that is a very heavy burden that all of us in this nation must bear. It is for this, and for nothing else, that we adopt representative, participatory and pluralist democracy as a form of government. This is how we define ourselves in the Constitution, proclaiming the inalienable commitment to be forever a free and independent nation.

Participating in the government of the Republic is a task of enormous importance that lately we are not taking seriously. We have allowed the political parties to be institutionally emptied and replaced by chiefdoms that divide the State into pieces. We are betraying the constitutional mandate that governing is an act based on the recognition of human dignity.

And in view of what we are doing to the Nation, it is imperative to undertake a struggle to claim human dignity as the central axis of politics as a Government.

It would be like the next great battle for independence.

RESUME

We are very fond of celebrating these two long centuries of independent life with the waving of flags and patriotic chords. But we have the obligation to think if perhaps we have not replaced that proud scepter that one day we broke with a resounding enough. We still need another great battle for homeland independence: the recovery of dignity.
