Undersecretary of the Interior reiterates President Boric’s commitment to “process a state of emergency that guarantees the safety of the routes”

Along with stating that the term to manage the Intermediate Stadium project has not yet ended, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, assured that President Gabriel Boric’s commitment to “process a state of exception that allows guaranteeing the security of the routes”.

After heading a police committee in the city of Concepción, Undersecretary Monsalve said that it seems legitimate and logical to him that if the government makes a commitment, it must be fulfilled, “but the 15 days have not ended.” And, “since the 15 days have not ended,” he added, “the commitment we have made has not expired either.”

“The message to the leaders, workers, contractors, truck drivers and workers in the forestry sector who attended a dialogue process that has various points, including the Government’s commitment to process a state of exception that allows to guarantee the security of the routes, is a commitment that is maintained”, specified the head of the undersecretary’s office dependent on the Ministry of the Interior.

Monsalve reiterated that the objective is “to provide those security conditions in the face of the serious events that are taking place in the southern zone of Chile, and well, that term has not expired and within that term, the Government is going to maintain its commitment, which is make every effort to ensure that security is met”.

It is worth mentioning that Senator DC Matías Walker, president of the Mixed Commission that would review the project of the Intermediate State of the Executive, announced that the appointment scheduled for next Monday will not take place. Faced with this, the undersecretary commented: “The Mixed Commission has been suspended on Monday, the president of the commission, who is Senator Matías Walker, has informed that it is to seek all political support, hopefully unanimous or majority, but Beyond that particular discussion, the President has said it and I reiterate it here: the Government will always be available to use all the tools allowed by the rule of law, if they have to be used to guarantee security and life of the people”.

In the opinion of Undersecretary Monsalve, regarding the legislative discussion, “we will see if there is a majority, we hope there is, but if there is not, the Government has a set of tools that establishes the rule of law to guarantee the safety of people and the The President has said it and I reiterate it here, the Government will always evaluate all those tools established by the rule of law to guarantee the security of Chileans.”

As for the division that would exist within the ruling party, Monsalve said that “there have been conversations.” And he explained that different groups have attended La Moneda. In this sense, he reported that “with some an agreement has been reached, to support the proposal made by the Government without any conditions, and there are other groups with whom they are talking, who have asked for more information, details, clarifications, complement the proposal, because sometimes it tends to be hidden due to the weight of the security agenda, which is natural, that is, when people’s integrity is at risk, the weight of that agenda tends to hide other agendas, but I want to reiterate that the Government’s agenda regarding the historical political conflict in the south is not only about security, it is very important, but it is also about public investment and dialogue for political conflicts and there are agendas on all three fronts and they are working “.

“If we don’t address the historical dispossession of the Mapuche people, it will be difficult for us to come out of this conflict with only the police and a state of exception. The government understands that, it understands security, it understands that it is a priority, that it has to protect it, but also understands that it has to respond to the historical conflict that is present in the south of Chile,” Monsalve said.

The undersecretary of the Interior headed a police committee in the city of Concepción due to the acts of violence that have occurred in recent weeks, noting that they have committed to improving the standards of the operational capacity of the police with established deadlines.

The commitment in this case is “in three months to bring the operational capacity of police vehicles to 80% and to 90% in six months,” adding that there are two strategic tasks in terms of security in all Chilean cities. First, the weapons, in which “we have committed here, through the presidential delegate Daniela Dresdner, to set up a task force together with the police to go and inspect with risk algorithms, to remove the weapons that are being used to kill Chilean men and women”.

While in second place he referred to illegal trade, indicating that “it is not just about the stall that is on the street, it is that behind the illegal trade there is organized crime that is dedicated to violating intellectual property, which is dedicated to human trafficking, that is dedicated to smuggling, that is dedicated to theft”, announcing the constitution of the illegal trade table, by the Presidential delegate, to control it.
