Marco Moreno's projection on the second presidential round: "The candidate who is going to win the election is the one who best manages to adapt"

“I think both candidates, both Kast and Gabriel Boric, have to make that effort to change.” That was one of the conclusions of the political analyst Marco Moreno on yesterday’s election day, in which José Antonio Kast (Christian Social Front) won the first round with 1,961,122 (27.91%), surpassing the standard-bearer of I approve of Dignidad, who obtained 1,814,809 (25.83%).

In an analysis after the elections – in which Franco Parisi marked the surprise with a third place without even being in national territory – Moreno said in The Counter at La Clave that “there is still a space in which to try to convince and seduce citizens. The second round has the advantage that it reduces the options a bit.” It also projects that “the candidate who is going to win the election is the one who manages to adapt the most, the one who is more flexible to these signals that we are receiving from the electorate.”

In his opinion, “the key is who adapts better, who can better flex their positions to reach that electorate. If Gabriel Boric continues to have the gestures like the ones we saw him last night (…) if he continues to speak to his supporters “It will be very difficult for him to obtain a victory in the second round. He has to get off the tree, connect in a better way with the popular sectors.”

Along these lines, the academic criticized that “the speech of Approve Dignity continues to be very focused on a sector to which it speaks (…) the second round is not to speak to yours, they are already convinced.”

The director of the School of Government and Communications of the Central University also said that “Boric does not manage to increase his electoral support base, he obtained more or less the same vote that he obtained in the primary.”

Moreno said that “the central issue” lies in how the candidates read the public. “There is a clue that has to do with the fact that perhaps the honeymoon of the outbreak is over. There are elements of exhaustion, and Parisi read that well and José Antonio Kast read it well. Of course, the translation they do is very dangerous, because Kast is a lurch, we are taking a change of direction towards a hard right “.

“What is the complication that Boric has? That Kast is going to be willing to change everything, he is going to be very pragmatic and change everything about his program. The question is whether on the left, the Communist Party has already warned that if he moves a comma from the program, they are going to be there to avoid it, it makes one think how this adaptation process is going to be, “the political analyst added.

“Both Boric and Kast, in an election that is going to be vote by vote, have to adapt, modify what their story is, their myth of Government, what they intend to try to seduce a citizenry that is very skeptical, because he understands that it is not that things are going to be resolved very easily, and that is why these anti-political speeches are ignited. Parisi’s vote is also an anti-system vote, of rejection of politicians, “Moreno concluded.
