The Ortega dictatorship, for more than 10 months, has repeatedly denied visits, calls, letters or any type of communication between the minor sons and daughters and the prisoners of conscience who remain captive in the Evaristo Vásquez Judicial Complex, better known as as “The New Chipote”.
The IACHR reported that through the Special Follow-up Mechanism for Nicaragua (Meseni), they have been notified of the “persistence of deplorable conditions of detention, acts of mistreatment, isolation, incommunicado detention, and the lack of access to timely, adequate and specialization of the people detained in El Chipote.
In addition, he highlighted that many of the political prisoners are beneficiaries of precautionary measures of the organization and provisional measures granted by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

“Family visits, like intimate visits, are a fundamental element of the right to protection of the family recognized in the article 17 of the American Convention on Human Rights. In addition, the State has the obligation to facilitate contact between detainees and their families,” he reiterated.

The IACHR asked the Ortega regime, which must “urgently” allow contact between girls and boys with their fathers or mothers who are deprived of their liberty.
