Venezuela seeks support in Brasilia

The delegation of deputies of the National Assembly designated to promote the re-entry of Venezuela to the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) advances in its mission and is in Brazil to continue with the rounds of meetings.

The group made up of parliamentarians Iris Varela, José Gregorio Correa, Saúl Ortega and Imad Saab, among others, arrived yesterday in Brasilia, the capital of the Brazilian nation, to expose the need to resume formal participation as a member of the regional legislative body.

The deputy for the Democratic Alliance, José Gregorio Correa, pointed out that Venezuela should never have left the organization and highlighted the route they are following to recover the space.

“A parliamentary delegation visits our brothers from Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and at this moment from Brazil, to talk about the possibility that we can understand each other and that politics is never above the interests of the citizen,” he said.

He also explained that this visit represents an important point due to the strength of votes that Brazil has within Parlasur and the support that it can provide with its 63 parliamentarians at the time that the entity debates its re-entry.
