ADIC regrets not being able to continue accompanying the most vulnerable communities in Nicaragua

After the recent cancellation of its legal status, the Association for Integral Community Development (ADIC), which worked in the execution of community development projects in Matagalpa, said goodbye, highlighting the 31 years of service they provided mainly in the north of the country.

The organization founded in 1991 stated through a statement that during the years of work it had the opportunity to share with children, adolescents, youth, men and women from various communities, “together with whom we have grown with their knowledge, knowledge, experiences and struggles for the right to lives free of violence and healthy environments (…)”.

“Today the context separates us, ADIC, like other civil society organizations, has had its legal status cancelled, thus denying opportunities to continue alongside the communities,” the statement added.

On May 4, the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega, through the National Assembly, ordered with a single stroke of the pen the cancellation of the legal status of 50 civil organizations, including ADIC.

The executive accused these NGOs of not wanting to comply with the law, “that they want to violate Law 977, the Anti-Money Laundering Law, Law 147, they do not want to account for their funds, where their funds come from, what country they come from, from which organizations come (…) they are not really accountable, this means that we are constantly in these cancellations, ”said Ortega deputy Filiberto Rodríguez at that time.

After learning of the closure of ADIC, Yader Morazán, a specialist in the administration of justice and human rights, lamented the decision of the Ortega regime and highlighted the work of said organization.

“This organization was very insistent on rural areas, on environmental issues, food security, gender violence, etc. It makes me nostalgic and angry to think that the most vulnerable population is harmed by the whims of criminal neo-oligarchs in power, ”Morazán wrote on his Facebook account.

ADIC maintains that its main reason has always been to care for each person, “each life that has put its energy to dream, to create, to know and fight for their human rights.”

“For all the effort, for all the challenge that we have lived together, the ADIC feels honored to have acted in a very important stage in the life of each one of the people who, when reading this communication, must feel part of this joint walk in favor of community development with active participation”, he concluded.
