MADRID, Spain.- The remains of Cristina Lopez-Ceron Ugartethe Spanish tourist who died in the explosion at the Hotel Saratoga in Havana on May 6, arrived in Galicia this Thursday.
As reported by the newspaper The voice of Galiciathe remains were received by the family, who moved them to Landro, Viveiro, his hometown.
The death had been registered in the Civil Registry of the Spanish Consulate in Havana. This procedure is essential for repatriation.
The mayor of Viveiro, María Loureiro, expressed her condolences and showed her full support for the young woman’s family.
Cristina López-Cerón had studied Humanities in Viveiro. After graduating she studied Economics at the University of Santiago de Compostela. In 2016, she completed a master’s degree in banking and finance and later worked in financial entities such as Caixabank and Abanca.
His partner, César Román, remains hospitalized
At the time of the explosion in the hotel, Cristina López-Cerón and her partner, César Román, were walking in front of the hotel facility.
César Román was seriously injured. According to official reports, he continues in serious but stable condition. He has had to undergo surgery for several fractures.
After the news of the unfortunate event, his relatives traveled to Havana.
César lived with Cristina in the municipality of As Pontes and worked as a maintenance manager at the Leroy Merlin company.
The couple had traveled to the island to celebrate the recently completed 30 years of César Román.
According to the last part of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), offered this Thursday evening, 45 people died in the accident at the Hotel Saratoga. Of those injured, 15 remain hospitalized and 39 have already been discharged.
