The Municipal Board of Asunción implements the classification of waste

Within the framework of the program for sustainable management and management of recyclable waste, a group of 35 officials from the Municipal Board of Asunción received the first training on the “Guide for solid waste management in public institutions” promoted by MADES and UNDP.

In this way a historical fact is given, since from now on the waste will have to be classified in the communal building. This project, an initiative of the municipal councilor Paulina Serrano (PQ), is within the framework of “Asunción Green City of the Americas – Pathways to sustainability.”

In an act that was attended by councilor Paulina Serrano (PQ), Abog. Hugo
Antonio Piccinini, General Director of Environmental Management (MADES) and Alejandra Kemper, Project Coordinator at UNDP Paraguay, proceeded to socialize the project and the subsequent delivery of materials for its implementation in the Board building.

More than 30 collaborators, including General Services personnel and officials from the different benches that make up the Municipal Board of Asunción, were trained on waste management with an emphasis on their correct final disposal, in order to take care of the environment. .

On the other hand, issues concerning improvements in terms of the environment were addressed, as well as discussing current problems such as the accumulation of garbage and pollution.

“The example begins at home”.
Councilwoman Paulina Serrano said that there is a “before and after” in the Municipal Board with this project and stated that the example “begins at home.”

“We have been promoting this project for weeks with the support of MADES and UNDP. Each classified waste is one less in landfills. Step by step we continue to build a Sustainable Assumption”, he indicated.

How much garbage does Asunción produce per day?
Taking into account the average, urban solid waste is generated 1.18 kg per person per day according to the study of Characterization of Urban Solid Waste Generation in Asunción (MSW), a generation of 3,311.26 tons of MSW per day is obtained .
