“Knightsbridge”: Carabineros investigates pyramid scam that includes officials as victims and perpetrators

The internal prosecutor’s office of Carabineros opened a summary to determine the responsibilities of the fraudulent action, where at least three lieutenants of the institution are involved in the recruitment of about 18 officials to invest in a pyramid scheme.

As reported Thirdthe scam called “Knightsbridge” and was related to the purchase of items on the Internet, with the false promise of tax refund from abroad, specifically, in Singapore.

Through an application, which falsely offered to receive a tax refund, the “investor” received money from the sale of the product, which generated a return of up to 300% of the original value.

The investigation began after the image of a lieutenant from the Carabineros transit zone with the phrase “fraudster” and his telephone number went viral, which seems to point him out as one of the “captors” of the institution.

From Carabineros they indicated that if it is possible to verify the participation of officials in said pyramid scheme, they will be discharged as soon as possible. It is estimated that due to this, they would have received more than 50 million pesos.
