More than 20 people were injured on Sunday when a car hit a Christmas parade in Waukesha, a city of more than 60,000 people in Wisconsin, United States, police said.
Officials were still collecting information about the incident, which occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. Argentine time), while the annual parade was taking place in the city of Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee, the AFP agency reported.

“A red van got into our downtown Christmas parade.”Police Chief Dan Thompson told reporters. “More than 20 people were injured as a result of this incident,” he added.
“The Waukesha Police Department recovered a suspicious vehicle. It is an ongoing investigation.”said the police chief, according to whom a person of interest in the incident was identified.
Angelito Tenorio, who is running for the position of Wisconsin State Treasurer, was at the parade and told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, that he saw “a pickup truck cross, just stepped on the gas and sped along the route of the parade”.

“And then we heard a loud roar, and only deafening cries and screams from the people who were run over by the vehicle,” he said, always according to AFP.
Police added that several people were taken to the hospital.
The Journal Sentinel reported images showing the truck speeding into the parade behind a school marching band.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said he and his wife prayed for Waukesha and for “all the children, families and community members affected by this senseless act.”
Waukesha is located about 30 miles west of Milwaukee.
