SANTO DOMINGO.- The Public Ministry began this Wednesday the presentation of the accusation against those accused of the death of the lawyer Yuniol Ramírez and of acts of corruption in the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) in the management of Manuel Rivas.
The trial against those involved is followed before the judges of the Second Collegiate Court of the National District, who recessed for Friday the 13th.
The main defendant in the death of Ramírez, Argenis Contreras, and the others involved in the case of alleged corruption in Omsa appeared before the court for the start of the substantive trial. The Public Ministry also accuses José Mercado (El Grande), Víctor Ravelo Campos (El Herrero), Jorge Abreu, Heidy Peña and Lilian Francisca Suárez Jáquez.
While the former director of that institution Manuel Rivas and Faustino Rosario Díaz face charges for the acts of corruption in the OMSA.
Court Attorney Mirna Ortiz, Litigation Coordinator of the Specialized Attorney for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), highlighted the progress of the reading of the accusatory file before the Second Collegiate Court of the National District.
“Today, the Public Ministry has started reading the indictment containing the charges and the evidence in the case of Yuniol Ramírez against a series of people involved in this process,” he stressed.
He stressed that the reading of the accusation is quite advanced and that only one or two hours of reading would remain.

Ortiz announced that later the presentations of the defenses will begin and then the presentation of all the evidence that will indisputably lead to the conviction of the accused.
The representative of the Public Ministry produced her statements when answering questions from the press from the judicial source at the exit of the court.
Regarding an incident presented by the defense of Manuel Rivas alleging that the Public Ministry began to read things that had excluded his client, he said that it was ruled in favor of the Public Ministry.
“The incident was ruled in favor of the Public Ministry, since we were able to establish, using the order to open the trial itself, that the only legal qualification that was excluded was that of fraud against the State, all the other acts typified and demonstrated in the accusation, remain unscathed and will be demonstrated by the Public Ministry, “he said.
Regarding how broad the accusation is and how many are missing for it to be known, he replied that “we are in that process, we are going to see, hopefully, we are going to know the accusation.”
Mirna Ortiz represented the Public Ministry at the hearing together with Pedro Frías, Rosa Ysabel, Wagner Cubilete and Elvira Rodríguez.
Judges Claribel Nivar Arias (president), Yissel Soto and Clara Sobeida Castillo, after concluding the day, ordered the recess of the trial until this Friday, May 13, at 9:00 in the morning.
It is recalled that the relatives of the murdered professor Yuniol Ramírez withdrew as an accuser in the process that is aired against the defendants of the event that occurred in 2017.
The victim’s lawyer and relative, Ramón Ramírez, said that the decision was made because the Public Ministry has allegedly filed an accusation to favor the accused, of which they accused the National District prosecutor, Rosalba Ramos, and Olga Diná, a former prosecutor. from Santo Domingo East.
Ramírez Ferreras, who presided over the National Convergence of Lawyers (CONA), was found dead with a concrete block tied to his neck by a chain, in a stream in Hato Nuevo, Santo Domingo Oeste.
The crime recorded in October 2017 is linked to acts of administrative corruption that occurred in the government transport entity.
After the event Argenis Contreras fled the country to the United States, where he was captured and three years later and after the efforts of the current management of the Attorney General’s Office, the Public Ministry managed last year that he was handed over to the country.
