The Free Peru bench presented last Wednesday the 11th a constitutional reform project with which it seeks to modify the selection process of magistrates of constitutional Court.
The initiative of the ruling party is to promote that the members of the TC be elected by popular vote and leave aside the creation of a parliamentary commission to finalize the election.
From outside the Legislative Palace, congressman Alex Flores He stated that the proposal to bring this responsibility before the population would be to guarantee “greater transparency” during the process.

“We present a bill to correct and guarantee greater transparency in the election of the magistrates of the Constitutional Court. Free Peru is consistent with the approaches and with the program. At all times we express the need for a constitutional reform so that the tribunes are elected by popular vote, by universal suffrage”, he told the press.
Likewise, he expressed that he would seek to avoid “distortions” in the election of the new tribunes of the highest interpreter of the Constitution.
Last election of magistrates
A controversial election took place in the Congress of the Republic on May 10, when the plenary session elected the new members of the Constitutional Court. The vote took place without a previous debate among the legislators.

The president of the commission in charge of the selection of magistrates, Jose Balcazarwas a point of criticism when he delivered the Comptroller’s report on the applicants and had pages completely deleted.
In this way, the new members of the TC were elected Francisco Morales Saravia, Luis Gutiérrez Ticse, Helder Domínguez Haro, Luz Pacheco Zerga, Manuel Monteagudo Valdéz and César Ochoa Cardich.
