(EFE).- Cuban opponent Guillermo Coconut Fariñas explained this Wednesday that he has already been released after being interrogated for several hours by the security forces upon his return to Havana from a tour of Europe and the United States.
The 2010 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Conscience assured on Facebook that it was a “coercive interrogation” and that the “punishment” for his political tour will be not being able to leave his city, Santa Clara.
“It is the right of all of us who fight for democracy and freedom in Cuba to engage in politics in this way,” Fariñas said.
“It is the right of all of us who fight for democracy and freedom in Cuba to engage in politics in this way,” Fariñas said despite the sanction.
The opponent assured that State Security agents made him ugly for having influenced the US president, Joe Biden, to decide not to invite Cuba to the Summit of the Americas.
They also criticized his contribution to the recent European Union (EU) statement on Cuba. “For them that was intolerable,” she added.
Finally, according to Fariñas, they considered that the opponent was behind the coordination of the different generations of Cuban exiles and the involvement of businessmen in pro-democratic activities on the island.
Fariñas was arrested this Tuesday afternoon, when he was leaving the José Martí international airport in Havana by car, where he had just landed after his international tour.
The opponent was returning to Cuba after a tour – in his opinion “successful” – of about two months that had taken him through the US and Europe, where he met with different political representatives and activists to talk about the situation in his country.
The Sakharov prize assured that the social situation in the country is a “pressure cooker without an escape valve” and that new protests are possible
The also leader of the United Anti-Totalitarian Front (Fantu) denounced during his tour the repression in Cuba, especially as a result of the anti-government protests of July 11.
The Sakharov prize assured that the social situation in the country is a “pressure cooker without an escape valve” and that new protests are possible. Fariñas had planned this tour for mid-January, but he could not travel because he had been immunized with Cuban vaccines, which are not recognized in the US. A month later he was able to fly.
In the previous months, Fariñas had denounced several arrests, sometimes in a hospital in Santa Clara, where he lives, for unsolicited medical treatment.
