MIAMI, United States.- Representatives of more than 30 colleges, associations and federations of medical specialists in Mexico rejected the federal government’s announcement to hire specialists from another country, in relation to the hiring of at least 500 Cuban professionals, something they consider a “serious offense against health professionals” in the Aztec country.
Last Monday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) reported that Mexico will hire more than 500 medical specialists from Cuba given the deficit that the country faces in both general medicine and specialties, “particularly to serve the poorest regions of the country. country”.
According to a report from the daythe medical union sent a letter to López Obrador in which it shows a “deep disapproval and energetic protest” at the announcement of the hiring of Cuban doctors “due to an alleged lack of them.”
In the letter, the colleges, associations and federations of Mexican doctors assured that in the country “there are doctors with capacity”, endorsed by the universities, and trained in full knowledge of the “needs and idiosyncrasies of our population”.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, reports La Jornada, in Mexico there is a deficit of 200,000 doctors. At least 123,000 in general medicine and 76,000 in specialties. However, the letter denounces that in the Aztec nation there are health professionals “unemployed or possibly employed with very low wages or in areas of extreme insecurity.”
“Because of this, we consider that they have been unfairly relegated, privileging foreign doctors, also ignoring the academic capacity of our universities,” the text adds.
Likewise, they pointed out the decision of the federal government as an “aggravation for the Mexican medical union” and affirmed that foreign doctors “do not meet the required competencies, do not have duly specified functions, do not have the requirements established by current laws and lack of the endorsement of professional associations”.
“His intervention has not represented a benefit for the care of our population and it is a serious lack of equity for the doctors of our country,” they concluded.
