More than 60 neighborhoods in the Santo Domingo province and the National District have been without drinking water since Monday, as a result of a breakdown that affected the distribution line of the Valdesia Santo Domingo aqueduct, caused by the drilling machine of a private company that did not was identified by the authorities of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD).
The director of the CAASD, Felipe Suberví, informed this Tuesday that brigades of that institution work 24 hours a day to correct the fault and restore the service.
The works take place on Coronel Juan María Lora Fernández avenue, in the Los Ríos sector of the capital, where the amount of water that flows through the pipes caused some locals to use the streets as a large swimming pool.
“This line conducts approximately 70 million gallons per day, so our institution proceeded to close it, to identify the damage to the pipeline and proceed with the solution work,” Suberví said.

Among the affected neighborhoods are Los Guandules, Guachupita, María Auxiliadora, Mejoramiento Social and Villa María, in the National District.

“The CAASD had granted a permit for a sewage filter in the western part of the road and they did it in the eastern part, where they cross the lines of the Valdesia aqueduct,” explained Suberví.
