This Wednesday morning the third day of the general strike continued in the city of Colón, however, the province woke up in apparent calm, but besieged by a large number of police units that reinforce various points.
With this police action, the aim is not to repeat the scene of violence in the midst of the social, economic and labor claims demanded by the active forces and organizations of Colon starting this Monday, May 9.
Leaders of the United Coalition for Columbus (CUCO), the Colonense Broad Front, deputies and other active forces reiterate that they will remain in the streets. They reject the acts of violence that occurred on Tuesday, in which a police unit was injured in the chest.
They insist that President Laurentino Cortizo must preside over the dialogue to provide answers to the population of Colon, which demands the reactivation of projects, water, employment and other needs.
In terms of transport, on this third day, public transport is paralyzed again, so people have had to manage to get to their jobs, mainly in private companies.
Until now, the road has been closed at the height of the community of Río Alejandro, which communicates with the district of Portobelo.
While the closure in the community of Nombre de Dios on the Costa Arriba of Colón, has been maintained since Monday.
The government of Colón decreed a curfew, after public demonstrations during these days on the Atlantic coast.
The decree issued by the government indicates that it began at 11:00 pm on Tuesday and ended at 4:00 am on Wednesday. It was clarified that the curfew was only for that time.
