Moguel read the letter in front of the main entrance of the Court, in the Historic Center, in the framework of March 8, International Women’s Day. He then handed it over to the Parts Office.

“Your Honor, the women deprived of their liberty in Santa Martha Acatitla are writing to you regarding March 8, International Women’s Day. We do it, because on previous occasions, he is the only one that has responded to our demands for justice and because he presides over the institution in charge of ensuring that our Constitution is respected,” the letter detailed.

“Although we know that the common jurisdiction is not within its jurisdiction, we know the sensitivity of the Court and its concern that the prisons are full of poor innocent women, or that they are paying for their relationship with a man,” the text adds. .

The head of the Court commented that he spoke with the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, who is enthusiastic about the possibility of carrying out this visit to the Santa Martha prison.

Both public servants even agreed to work together to see the conditions that exist in the prison and to be able to collaborate “within the framework of their powers, to reverse those conditions that are not worthy or adequate.”

“(The inmates) recognize that I have no competence in the issues that they are raising with me, but they tell me that they consider me an ally of women’s causes and that is why they come to me,” the judge noted.

“They express to me the conditions in which they are living, the abuse of preventive detention linked to the fact that it is now very easy to issue an order to subject someone to a trial, and they invite me to visit them,” he added.

“In the same line of approaching the poorest and most unprotected people who suffer injustice in this Mexico City… we will sign an agreement, the Government of CDMX and the Federal Judicial Power, so that the public defenders of the Federal Institute of the Public Defender’s Office can assist in processes, in procedures where there is an issue of human rights violations”, Zaldívar advanced in his most recent press conference.

As a result, the day before, the minister and the head of government signed an agreement that seeks to bring justice closer to the people who need it most and avoid a violation of their Human Rights.

By means of the agreement, the public defenders of the Court will be able to intervene in local matters and collaborate with the local Public Defender’s Institute in a broad manner.
