Death toll from Saratoga hotel explosion rises to 42

The number of people killed in the explosion of the Saratoga hotel that occurred last May 6 in Havana rose this Tuesday to 42, according to the part of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) of Cuba which compiles the data until 11:30 am

The work carried out during the last 12 hours by firefighters and rescuers has made it possible to continue recovering bodies under the rubble of the tourist facility, as well as from surrounding buildings, where it was also suspected that victims of the accident.

The MINSAP It also reported that the number of injured rose to 96. There are 17 people admitted to five Havana hospitals, including five minors. Regarding their condition, six patients are reported as critical (two children) and two as serious.

Until the closure of the information provided by the health agency, 37 of the people affected by the explosion had received medical discharge to continue the recovery in their homes.

Meanwhile, the authorities have reiterated that the search will not stop until they confirm that no body remains under the rubble.

In addition to the one occupied by the Saratoga hotel, other buildings were damaged by the shock wave of the explosion, according to official Cuban media, which puts 38 homes affected.

The Saratoga was built in 1880 and from 1911 it functioned as a hotel. Its last restoration took place in 2005, when the building was reformed in depth, it acquired the category of five stars and was cataloged among the most luxurious in the Cuban capital, the agency recalled. Eph.
