Minsa continues to drop in cases of COVID-19: 40 new positives in a week

According to the most recent report from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) of Nicaragua, between May 3 and 10, 40 Nicaraguans have tested positive for COVID-19, down two compared to last week.

As for the victims of the virus, the Minsa continues to record a death per week, a figure that has not changed since October 2020.

With these latest data, Nicaragua raised 18,735 infections confirmed since the first case was made official on March 18, 2020 236 deaths accumulated, according to the report of the health authorities.

In addition, they detail that there were other deaths in people who have been in follow-up, due to pulmonary thromboembolism, diabetes mellitus, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crises and bacterial pneumonia.

The health authorities also reported that they have treated and followed up 14,447 people, of whom 14,171 have survived the pandemic.

It should be noted that the official data is contradictory with that of the COVID-19 Citizen Observatory. The interdisciplinary team reports 5,994 deaths from pneumonia and other symptoms related to the coronavirus, as well as 32,174 suspected cases of contagion.

The authorities maintain a permanent vaccination day against COVID-19 for all people over 2 years of age. The Ortega government has affirmed and described the vaccination day as a success, however it continues to promote massive activities.

It is notorious to observe that currently most Nicaraguans have stopped wearing masks and do not avoid social distancing, which according to experts can cause more infections.
