The Minister of Economy, Martin Guzmanraised the need to achieve consensus through a “constructive public debate”, after pointing out that there were “issues that did not work on one side or the other”.
“We aspire to a constructive public debate, there are issues that did not work on one side or the other, therefore we are going to continue advancing in the line that we have proposed, along the path that is good for Argentina”Guzmán said at the “Let’s Build a Sustainable Country” event organized by the United States Chamber of Commerce in Argentina (AmCham).
The minister also referred to the importance of “anchoring expectations” to lower inflation levels: “There are no stories here, this is seeing to believe, and to believe you have to do,” he said.
For Guzmán, inflation is a “historical problem” in Argentina, driven by a set of factors that cause an “uneasy and restless” economy.
In this sense, he urged to “attack the multiple causes” that generate it, because “short-termism is of little use if later we find ourselves again with restrictions and new crises,” he indicated.
Regarding the evolution of wages, he stressed that one of the macroeconomic objectives is the “recovery of purchasing power, with a productive profile that is consistent with the projections of economic growth.”
When referring to the investment chapter, he stressed that Argentina is at a “historic” moment, facing a great opportunity that must be seized, particularly in the energy sector.
By last, the head of the Palacio de Hacienda expressed his desire to “fulfill the goals agreed with the International Monetary Fund”with the aim of “traversing a healthy path” for the Argentine economy.
