He also recalled that the Pinar del Río was the starting right fielder in the U-15 World Cup that took place in Panama in 2018.
In the current Cuban Youth Championship in 2022, he was the leader in hits for his Pinar del Río team and batted .387.
“He has a lot of skills with his bat, contact, he’s fast and he also has the gift of being able to shoot with both hands on defense. Pérez can throw the same left to the right with the same intensity, ” said Romero on his talent.
According to the journalist’s considerations, among the factors that have influenced the recent flight of prospects, is the decision of the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) not to participate in the U-18 World Cup in Bradenton-Sarasota next September.
The tournament will be held in South Florida. “Presumably”, the fear that the Cuban baseball players would not return to the Island was the reason why the Cuban authorities decided not to participate.
Recent exodus of baseball prospects
During the month of March, the leader of the U15 national baseball team left Cuba and arrived in the Dominican Republic, Maykol Valdivia Brown; prospect Yorelquis Hernández from Santiago and Danell Figueroa from Matanzas, who projected to be a talent as a catcher.
