CDMX and the Supreme Court sign an agreement to provide free legal advice

“I think there is nothing more difficult than an innocent person being incarcerated and not having access to a good defense,” said the head of government of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, when signing the agreement.

“The agreement we signed today is precisely that, it is to allow everyone to have access to prompt and expeditious quality legal advice, regardless of their condition and particularly for the most vulnerable,” he added.

For his part, Arturo Zaldívar, Minister President of the Supreme Court, recognized that the justice system in the country still privileges those who have greater resources or influence.

“In Mexico we continue to have an elitist justice, a justice that privileges those who have economic resources or political contacts over those who have nothing. (…) We continue to have justice throughout the country where prisons are full of innocents whose only crime is poverty”, he maintained.

Zaldívar will visit the Santa Martha Acatitla Prison this May 11, to later talk with the head of government in order to reverse situations of injustice or violation of human rights.
