At least six dead and 180 vehicles attacked, most cremated, has left the armed strike of the gulf Clan, the main criminal gang in Colombia that has dozens of populations in 11 departments of the country in distress, authorities reported this Sunday, May 8.

The Ministry of Defense pointed out that the criminal actions of the Gulf clan, also known as the Gaitanist Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), have led to the homicides of three civilians, a policeman and two soldiers.
The armed strike, which began on Thursday, May 5 and will continue until Tuesday, May 10, is carried out in retaliation for the extradition to the US of its top boss, Dairo Antonio Usuga, alias Otoniel, one day before.
That group has trade restricted, the movement of vehicles on roads and the mobility of people, threatening attacks on those who travel on the roads, even if they go in caravans escorted by the Army, in various departments of Colombia.

Therefore, the local president made a call to central government so that they do not leave the town’s police officers alone in the face of criminal attacks and asked the Colombian president, Iván Duque, to “appear on the case“.

Since the armed strike began, the authorities have detained 92 people, 21 by court order and 71 in flagrante delicto, and among those arrested are aka Peter, second leader of the Gulf clan in the department of Magdalena.

Likewise, 37 raids have been carried out in which 12 firearms, 481 cartridges, 6 recorded, 23 cell phones and more than 50 million pesos (about 12,000 dollars) have been seized.
The Colombian Federation of Road Freight Transporters (Colfecar), for its part, has spoken of losses of more than 13,000 million pesos (about 3.2 million dollars) for actions committed in Antioquia, Bolívar, Córdoba, Sucre, Cesar and Atlántico.
That value, added the guild, does not include that of the loads that were transported, but that of the damage to vehicles.

Úsuga pleaded not guilty a day later before a federal judge in New York who accused him, among other crimes, of “lead an ongoing criminal enterprise” between the year 2003 and October 2021, when he was captured, and of “participating in an international conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine, knowing and intending that the drugs would be illegally imported into the United States“.
