“A symbol unites us”, is the campaign promulgated for Independence Day to make rosettes for women deprived of their liberty in the Buen Pastor penitentiary.
Tricolor brooches in ñandutí supported by a social model are made by the labor of eight inmates of the aforementioned penitentiary center, within the framework of the national holiday in May, in a campaign called “A symbol unites us.”
This project, whose main objective is the production of textile products for the company Kuña Pepó, is carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Justice.
From the workshop of the Good Shepherd, embroidered works with national identity are made that fuse fine red, white and blue threads, achieving nine forms of rosettes with images of screens, petals, leaves, flowers, fans and even maps and flags that oscillate measures between 4 and 6.5 cm. Pieces in diversity that subject to a brooch, are ready to wear them on the chest.
Professional assistance according to the demands of the company with current trends, is the responsibility of Professor Rocío Rojas, who, in addition to providing comprehensive assistance within the prison, supervises each finished product.
It is highlighted that the artisans are certified by the Paraguayan Institute of Crafts (IPA). This apprenticeship also constitutes a reinsertion tool for them in an educational commitment to business management for the beneficiaries involved that allows them to open up in the market, and is supported by an alliance agreement between Kuña Pepó and the Ministry of Justice.
The value of the rosettes ranges between G. 12,000 to G. 25,000, which is the case of those with overlapping embroidery and applications.
