Dominico Americano begins construction of a modern sports and recreational complex

Domínico Americano inicia construcción de moderno complejo deportivo y recreativo

Santo Domingo.- Within the framework of the celebration of its 75th anniversary, the Dominican American Cultural Institute, carried out the first pierce that marks the beginning of the construction of a modern sports and recreational complex in its main campus on Av. Abraham Lincoln in Santo Domingo.

The act was headed by Mr. Darío Lama, President of the Board of Directors and Mr. Ramón Sosa, Executive Director of the ICDA and was attended by members of this educational and cultural community, such as parents, students, teaching staff and administrative.

“Domínico Americano Sports Complex” will host different sports disciplines including basketball, volleyball and soccer available to the entire community that participates in the institution’s academic programs: the Dominican American University (UNICDA), the Dominican American School and the Language School. This with the aim of complementing the training and sports development of its students.

Other activities will also be developed with the participation of the external community in mind, such as sports and esports tournaments and exchanges, training sessions and talks with renowned athletes, among others.

The public capacity for ceremonial events will be 1,750 people and for sports activities about 300 attendees.

The space will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology suitable for sporting and recreational events, as well as courts and backboards approved by FIBA ​​(International Basketball Federation) for a grade 2 competition level.

It should be noted that the sports complex will have solar panels that complement those already installed by the institution to reaffirm its commitment to the use of renewable energy.

Dominico Americano Sports Complex is part of a series of works that the institution has been executing in order to strengthen and complement its already recognized and prestigious academic offer for children, youth and adults.

The Dominican-American Cultural Institute was founded on January 26, 1947 by a group of Dominicans and North Americans residing in the country, with the aim of strengthening friendship and cultural ties between the United States of America and the Dominican Republic.

Since its foundation, it has been an institution that has always been at the forefront of educational services to Dominican society, dominating the English language teaching market.

Currently, the institution has a wide academic-cultural offer, which has higher education: undergraduate, postgraduate, continuing education programs and the Teacher Development Center; school: primary and secondary; preschool education, for children from 2 years old; language school, with an English as a second language program and a Spanish program for foreigners; the Cultural Direction that directs the cultural programs and the School of Art and Culture; the Lincoln Library and the Office of Student Advice.
