They say measures to improve Police have “neither head nor tail”

The PLD senator, Iván Lorenzo, criticized the measures to improve the Police announced by the Government.

The spokespersons for the blocks of senators from the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Iván Lorenzo, and deputies from the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, Rubén Maldonado, affirmed this morning that the measures announced by the Government to try to reform the Police and guarantee citizen security have neither head nor tail, nor will they produce the desired effects because they are not part of a plan.

Lorenzo and Maldonado agree that they are “blindfolded” and the result of improvisation by the government of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), since it assumed the reins of the State.

“It’s just a narrative, they have nothing written, the same thing happened when a patrol riddled two young pastors with bullets in Villa Altagracia, who was advised by the former mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani for a supposed police and citizen security reform plan , but that fell because it did not obey a plan, “he said. Lawrence.

The senator added that “now we see that they are seeking advice from the Colombian government, but that Duque government failed in terms of citizen security because the police and military forces are accused of serious human rights violations, that is, they do not know what they are doing. doing, they do not hit one”.

Likewise, he reiterated that the Government in practice does not have a citizen security plan and the measures it is taking are done in the heat of how the events unfold.

“That makes no sense, the government is blindly hitting on what has to do with the security of the Dominican people, they are confused, notice that they started with Giuliani and now they are with the failed model of Colombia,” said the also a member of the Political Committee of the PLD.

Lorenzo argued that “the only thing that has a little foundation there is the installation of a camera in police uniforms, but later, the other measures are practically inapplicable.”

The spokesman for the People’s Force in the Lower House said that “the Government has been blindly beating the bush from day one in regard to citizen security, the government does not have a plan because they act with the immediacy of events of the moment”.

“The Government has been improvising from day one, the Government assumed the reins of power without any specific plan, the time they brought in Rudy Giuliani during the electoral campaign, that was wasted money that they spent, because they did not create any plan, that it was done as a measure to create an electoral publicity impact at the time”, he considered.

Maldonado recalled that the Government began working on a plan for citizen security and modernization of the Police as a result of an incident that occurred on the Duarte highway with the murder of two young shepherds.

“There is no plan and now they come and talk that they are going to establish, even bring an international adviser and they present it to you as a solution to the problem, when we all know that this is nothing more than a cloth with paste to try to satisfy and improve its image, which is quite deteriorated in the face of national public opinion,” he said.

The FP deputy added: “They are not going to do anything because they do not have a plan, it is not a problem of a patch at a certain time, this is a problem that a structured plan of the Police must be made and that should not be a week from now, the problem is not to put cameras in the detachments and that it be seen from the Interior and the Police, the problem is structural”.

Measures

Yesterday, the Government announced the implementation of several measures contemplated in the police reform plan, to guarantee the physical integrity and human rights of those arrested by the Police.

The Commissioner for Police Reform, José Vila del Castillo, together with the Minister of the Interior, Jesús Vásquez, reported that they will implement 14 measures that will serve to ensure that cases such as the one that occurred to David de los Santos, beaten to death while he was in police custody, do not repeat. Among the measures are the installation of cameras in all patrol cars and the creation of a real-time police operations center, with the support of fixed 911 cameras and the installation of mobile cameras incorporated into patrol cars.

Improvising

“The government is improvising from day one, the government took over the reins of power without any specific plan, the time they brought in Rudy Giuliani during the election campaign, that was wasted money that they spent, because they did not create any plan,” said Maldonado, of the People’s Force.
