More than a dozen microenterprises in the Las Galeras tourist areain the province of Samaná, were impacted by the pilot program “Adapting your Business”.
An initiative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the Las Galeras City Council, the Sustainable Tourism Council of Las Galeras (Contugal) and the UAPA Nagua Mipymes Center , to support the recovery and promotion of resilience of MSMEs.
This is a pilot designed by the UNDP to accompany micro-entrepreneurs to adapt their business to be more resilient and flexible in the face of external shocks such as the COVID-19 crisis.
This methodology is being tested for the first time in the Dominican Republic, only country in the entire region of Latin America and the Caribbean selected, with the aim of standardizing its implementation globally.
In this pilot phase, the initiative impacted 14 companies in the community of Las Galeras, through individual and group consulting sessions for entrepreneurs, as well as training and technical assistance on topics such as: innovation, business model, finance, human development, marketing, digital marketing.
In addition, they were provided with seed capital for the implementation of improvements in their businesses.

They ask President Luis Abinader to build promised works
After a visit from President Luis Abinader to the municipality of Sánchez, in the province of Samaná, the political leader Roffi Capel requested several works that were promised by the president of the nation during the last electoral campaign.
Among the works that Capel requested from President Abinader is the construction of the Palmar Nuevo del Yuna bridgebelonging to this province of Samaná, which, due to lack of payment, the Pinsa company abandoned the works.
He argued that the producers have lost more than 25 percent of the products, since they must load the sacks of rice by boat and this generates a loss. In this sense, he explained that they must pay 200 pesos for the transfer.
