The Congress of the Republic will meet on Tuesday, May 10 to define the election of the six new magistrates of the Constitutional Court (TC).
On April 18, a total of six lawyers were declared fit to be elected as new magistrates of the TC by the Special Commission formed for that purpose.
After having gone through different evaluations and a personal interview, the applicants must obtain at least 87 votes each in order to be appointed as members of the highest body of justice.
According to what appears on the website of the working group, the table of merits was as follows:
- Morales Saravia, Francisco Humberto (cumulative score of 92.89).
- Gutierrez Ticse, Luis Gustavo (cumulative score of 88.67).
- Dominguez Haro, Helder (cumulative score 84.00)
- Pacheco Zerga, Luz Imelda (cumulative score 83.96)
- Monteagudo Valdez, Manuel (cumulative score 75.88)
- Ochoa Cardich, Cesar Augusto (cumulative score 73.32)
Ministers’ Interpellations
Meanwhile, for Wednesday, May 11, the Minister of the Interior, Alfonso Chavarrywill appear before the Plenary at 9:30 a.m. to answer an interpellatory statement of 9 questions.
The motion states that the mandatory social immobilization of last April 5 generated protests, marches and claims from the population of Lima and Callao towards the Government, “Bringing as a consequence destruction to publicly owned real estate, looting and acts of vandalism that the National Police failed to prevent or raise in a timely and adequate Contingency Plan”.
The next day, Thursday the 12th, the head of the Ministerial Cabinet, Hannibal Torresand the ministers Betssy Chavez (Labor and Employment Promotion) and Carlos Palacios (Energy and Mines).
The prime minister will have to answer seven questions about the government’s actions in the face of citizen protests and the disputed supreme decree that ordered the social immobility in Lima and Callao on April 5.
Likewise, Palacios Pérez will respond to the motion presented by the spokesperson for Popular Action, Elvis Vergara, where it is stated that the minister did not have the required experience to assume the position of regional director of Energy and Mines when Vladimir Cerrón, general secretary of Peru Libre, was regional governor of Junín.
Finally, another interpellatory statement presented by Fuerza Popular proposes that the minister Betssy Chavez answer about the strike of air traffic controllers that caused thousands of people to miss their flights during the last Holy Week.
Other themes
The Plenary of Congress will also see the constitutional complaint filed by the Nation’s prosecutor, Zoraida Ávalos, against the former Comptroller General of the Republic and former congressman Edgar Alarcon for the alleged crime of fraudulent embezzlement by aggravated appropriation.
The complaint filed by former congresswoman Yeni Vilcatoma against the former president will also be seen Martin Vizcarrain his capacity as former Minister of Transport and Communications, for alleged violation of article 126 of the Constitution.
Likewise, various constitutional reforms will be put to a second vote, such as the Temporary residence regime for former Presidents of the Republic and the strengthening of the anti-corruption fight within the framework of the lifting of bank secrecy and the tax reserve.
Another issue is the modification of articles 179 and 180 of the Political Constitution, on the election of one of the members of the National Election Jury (JNE) by the bar associations of all Peru.
