Vice President Hamilton Mourão met this Friday (6th) with his counterpart in Uruguay, Beatriz Argimon. The meeting took place at the Legislative Palace, in Montevideo, capital of the neighboring country. Mourão fulfills an official agenda in the country until this Saturday (7), with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations.
In a post on social networks, Vice President Beatriz Argimon classified the meeting as “fruitful”, in which topics such as the strengthening of Mercosur and collaboration of both countries in the defense sector were addressed.
On the Brazilian side, the Vice-Presidency of the Republic highlighted that, at the meeting, the issue of border integration between the two countries was also discussed. Brazil and Uruguay share a land border that stretches for 1,069 kilometers in the extreme south of the country. In all, there are ten neighboring cities, five on each side, covered along the border.
In the morning, also in Montevideo, Mourão met with the secretary general of the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi), Sergio Abreu. Aladi, whose headquarters are in the Uruguayan capital, is the largest Latin American integration group. It is made up of 13 member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, representing together 20 million square kilometers and more than 510 million population.
According to the Brazilian government, the meeting dealt with topics of interest to the country within the bloc, such as the increase in trade, the intensification of physical integration and the promotion of micro, small and medium-sized companies.
Still this Friday afternoon, Mourão meets with Uruguayan businessmen. He spends the night in Montevideo and returns to Brasília on Saturday morning.
