The director of the National School of Electoral Training and Civil Status (Efec) Felipe Carvajal assured today that the electoral body is committed to promoting the necessary reforms that allow useful results in favor of democracy, civil and political rights, and above all everything: the identity of Dominicans.
When participating in the first international congress “Democracy, Elections and Identity”, organized by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Carvajal said that the electoral and civil registry bodies, in the case of the Dominican Republic, constitute assets of great value to achieve the development goals and equity.
“Hence, the commitment of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and the Efec of organizing this congress, in an open and frank debate on the different issues of development and the consolidation of democracy” explained Carvajal when welcoming the national and international participants of the conclave, which ends tomorrow.

On his side, international panelist José Thompson, director of the Inter-American Institute, considered that any reform carried out in Latin America to improve democratic systems must go through reinforcing the distinctive characteristics of electoral bodies and their capacities.
He stated that in the case of the central electoral boards, they should work towards reducing civil sub-registration as much as possible.
