Panama is facing severe problems in the agricultural part, mainly in the importation of grain to give to cattle, which is making the raw material more expensive, this, due to the conflict of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the rise in fuel, he stressed. the Deputy Minister of Agricultural Development, Carlo Rognoni.
He added that grains are imported in Panama, basically from the United States, such as corn and soybeans, to be fed to chickens, pigs and cattle.
“In the agricultural part, one of the challenges we have is to lower the cost of fertilizers, which largely came from Russia and Ukraine, which is why supply and cost are becoming more complicated,” he remarked.
Rognoni also mentioned dairy production, indicating that an increase in these products is being avoided as much as possible. “The (dairy) industry is going to have to reflect this increase in the cost of products, but we are trying to avoid it,” he said.
The deputy minister of Mida advanced the purchase of 2 million pieces of meat products for the program “Christmas Solidarity” at an approximate cost of $33 million, which will benefit thousands of Panamanian families during the end of the year.
He specified that this investment will be made with the objective of reactivating the Panamanian economy and supporting two large sectors that have an important effect on national production, job creation and represent a force of security and momentum in this difficult moment that humanity is experiencing for the increase in costs.
